Mattress Size Guide India: Single, Double, Queen and King Sizes Explained

Buying the wrong mattress size is one of the most common mistakes we see, and one of the most frustrating to fix. Mattress sizes in India are measured in inches (length x width), and most brands offer the same standard sizes. Here is a clear guide to help you get it right the first time.

Most mattresses also come in 75-inch and 78-inch lengths, and some go up to 84 inches for taller people.
How to choose the right length
A good rule is to choose a mattress at least 6 inches longer than the tallest person sleeping on it:
- 72 inches (6 ft): suits most people up to about 5 ft 6 in.
- 75 inches (6 ft 3 in): comfortable for people up to around 5 ft 9 in.
- 78 inches (6 ft 6 in): ideal for people up to 6 ft.
- 84 inches (7 ft): for very tall sleepers.
How to measure your bed correctly
- Measure the inside of the bed frame, where the mattress sits, not the outside of the cot.
- Measure length and width at two or three points, because wooden frames can vary slightly.
- Round down to the nearest standard size so the mattress fits snugly without bulging.
- If your old mattress fitted well, measure it as well and compare.
What about thickness?
Mattress thickness is usually 5 to 14 inches. Thinner mattresses (5–6 inches) suit children, guest beds and budget needs. Most adults are comfortable at 6–8 inches, and premium spring or hybrid mattresses are often 10–14 inches. If your bed has a high headboard or side rails, check that a thicker mattress won't sit too high.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Queen and King size in India?
Both are usually 72 to 78 inches long. A Queen is 60 inches wide and a King is 72 inches wide, giving a King a full foot of extra width.
Is a Double bed the same as a Queen?
No. In India, a Double is usually 48 inches wide, which is narrower than a Queen (60 inches).
What size mattress is best for a couple?
A Queen (72 x 60) is the most popular choice for couples. If you have the room space, or share the bed with a child, a King (72 x 72) is more comfortable.
